Teak Care Guide
Premium teak furniture is designed to last generations with minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to keep your WOODWORX pieces looking their best.
Natural Weathering
Teak naturally develops a distinguished silver-grey patina when left outdoors. This is a sign of quality and does not affect durability.
Natural Oils
Teak contains natural oils that protect it from rot, insects, and weather damage without any treatment required.
Regular Cleaning
For routine maintenance:
- Wipe down with a damp cloth to remove dust and debris
- For deeper cleaning, use mild soapy water and a soft-bristle brush
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to air dry
- Clean your furniture every 2-3 months, or more frequently in dusty environments
- Avoid pressure washers as they can damage the wood grain
Maintaining the Golden Hue
If you prefer to preserve the original honey-gold color:
- Apply teak oil or teak sealer once or twice a year
- Clean the furniture thoroughly before application
- Apply oil with a soft cloth, following the wood grain
- Allow to penetrate for 15-20 minutes, then wipe off excess
- Let dry completely before use (typically 24 hours)
Note: Oiling is purely aesthetic. Teak does not require sealing for protection.
Removing Stains and Marks
- Water marks: Usually fade naturally as the wood dries
- Mold or mildew: Clean with a solution of 1 part bleach to 10 parts water, rinse well
- Stubborn stains: Gently sand with fine-grit sandpaper (220 grit), following the grain
- Grease or oil: Clean immediately with mild detergent and warm water
Seasonal Care
Summer
Regular cleaning is sufficient. Teak handles heat and humidity well.
Rainy Season
Teak is naturally water-resistant. Ensure good drainage to prevent standing water on surfaces.
Winter
If storing indoors, clean before storage. Outdoor furniture can remain outside year-round.
What to Avoid
- Do not use harsh chemicals, bleach concentrates, or abrasive cleaners
- Avoid placing hot items directly on teak surfaces
- Do not use metal brushes or scouring pads
- Avoid covering teak with plastic tarps (can trap moisture)
- Do not apply varnish or lacquer (prevents natural oil movement)
Cushion Care
For furniture with fabric cushions:
- Store cushions indoors when not in use
- Spot clean spills immediately with mild soap and water
- Allow cushions to dry completely before storing
- Most outdoor cushion covers are removable and machine washable
